The Wood Processing Operations

WPI has two Sawmills:

  • WPI Timber (Tangiwai Sawmill) is located near Ohakune in the centre of the North Island
  • Prime Sawmills Ltd is located in Gisborne on the East Coast of the North Island

The solid wood processing operations have been upgraded to produce a wide variety of products, cut from various log types. The three sawmills have a combined capacity in excess of 200,000 m3 of sawn timber output per annum.

What Timber Products Are Available?

We offer a wide range of products using Ernslaw One Ltd FSC certified plantation forest Radiata pine and Douglas fir - Oregon, and from other external log suppliers.

The timber can be rough sawn (S4S) or gauged (machined) to meet the customer requirements.

Every piece of timber is carefully graded to ensure total product reliability and consistency.

Timber preservative treatments are available according to the customer's intended use.

The timber products are suitable for:

  • Remanufacturing
  • Outdoor use and construction
  • Packaging

What Wood Types are Available?

FSC certified wood products are available in Radiata pine and Douglas fir, also known as Oregon.

Timber Preservative Treatments

The type of wood preservative treatment will entirely depend on the intended use of the end product. There are four standard preservative treatments available:

  • FRAMEbor WB H1.2 for interior construction and other internal uses
  • LOSP Vacsol Azure - H3 for interior and exterior construction material and other uses
  • CCA H3 for outdoor use, landscaping and construction (above ground)
  • CCA H4 for outdoor use, landscaping and construction (in ground)

Also available on request is H5 which is suitable for severe hazard exposure to weather and critical in ground use.
